Harbour Light

The lamp at the end of the pier does not keep the dark away so much as give it an edge. Each swell lifts the light, then sets it down again. Fishermen know the rhythm; visitors photograph it and call it calm.

This print is from a winter evening when the harbour was almost empty. The artist waited for the moment the lamp and its reflection met.
